1980

The 80's fashion was loud, bright and big. this was the time to make your statement in how you dressed.

Big hair- big make-upEighties was the time for big teased, crimped or permed hair - the bigger the better basically.With celebrities with the big permed hair like George Michaelle, Tina Turner and Madonna, everyone was going crazy and going to their salons to get the biggest hair they could. the make-up was also big, bold and bright! Make-up was to be creative and loud with different bright colours, sometimes to even near enough look like face paint.




PUNK!
Sex. studs and safety pins. Punks were very popular during the 1980's and made an explosive new way to dress. with spikes and studs, leather, dr.Martin boots, chocker's, stockings, ripped and tatty clothing, piercings and heavy make-up. Punks were dressed aggressively in leather rubber and pvc and to give a 'hard' appearance, Punk was that popular during 70-80's that Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood opened up a clothing shop named 'SEX' which was related to punks with stock selling such as; fetish clothing, bondage trousers, obscene earrings, and offensive slogan clothing. Spikes were a must have fashion piece for a punk that the 'Mohawk' was invented which was for hair to be styled into spikes.



Hip-hopHip-hop was another big style in the 80's and was influenced by a vibrant street culture emerged from the Arfican-American youth of New York's south Bronx which was about breakdancing, rap music and street graffiti art. With hip-hop stars such as 'Salt'N'Pepa and Roxanna Shante wearing bomber jackets tight leggings, gold jewellery and big earrings, women all over were following the hip-hop style of the stars with a sexy sporty appeal. Trainers became a must which major demands of the public were for trainer designer such as; Adidas, Nike and Puma. Designer such as; Channel, Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger joined in with the hip-hop style and took inspiration of hip-hop into their own collections. Big baggy tracksuits, trainers, caps and large gold jewellery took the stage for hip-hop men which followed through to the hip-hop men of the streets.

Aerobics & FitnessThe 'gym look' became a very well known look within the 80's. With American dance films coming out such as 'Fame' and 'Flashdance' and fitness videos arriving on the tv screen, the fitness dress code became very popular. Leotard, legging, leg warmers, crop tops, cropped sweaters and ra-ra skirts became the new dress code with pastel and neon colours.
